What are we going to do first?

What are we going to do first?

The alliance we are developing with Tearfund and ACET has huge long term potential. During the first year we aim to start to support a number of key Tearfund AIDS projects and to resource ACET themselves for the Centre of Excellence work. These are some of the projects and areas we have been asked by ACET and Tearfund to support.

ACET Uganda Capacity

1. Training church leaders to mobilise their churches against HIV/AIDS
2. Helping develop ACET Uganda’s existing education materials so that they can be shared with multiple churches and projects in different languages and as a web-based resource.
3. Helping ACET develop broadband based IT facilities in their Kampala office to improve efficiency and save costs.

AIDS Prevention
1. Developing ACET’s work with men who are at greatest risk of spreading HIV/AIDS in the community.
2. Providing school materials for children too poor to afford paper and uniform through HIVAIDS impact.
3. Helping develop and fund a counselling centre for young people to learn about behaviour change.

AIDS Care
1. Providing funds to support and educate child-headed households through local Church projects.
2. Providing funds to help feed and educate orphans in the Tumaini home in Kakira.
3. Providing funds to support those living with HIV/AIDS in displacement camps in Northern Uganda.
4. Providing skills and funding for training Church Community Mobilisation Teams who work with AIDS sufferers.

During the rest of 2007 and into 2008 ACET and Tearfund will agree a six year strategic framework for AIDS prevention and care in East Africa. This framework will set the priorities for St James in the years to come.

St James core missions...

The Love Africa initiative is designed to complement our existing commitments to St James Core Missions around the world. We will continue to enthusiastically support our Core Missions with prayer and resources
